The pioneer in the cybersecurity John Mcafee’s phone was hacked. We all know about his famous anti-virus and some of us might have used it. He has also made a hack-proof smartphone. Now, if this can happen to an expert and pioneer in this field of cybersecurity then we are just a pawn here. This exposed the vulnerability to digital world and if countries like India and Dubai are anticipating to become a digital economy as well as digital governance then this raises a question of its credibility. Aadhar cards use in linking to every account is a welcome step but again does it guarantee common peoples personal information wouldn’t be exposed to such cybercrime. So, one thing is clear that we need to make our system strong and credible and after that, we can completely rely on the digital economy but a hush-hush situation would not full fill India’s desire to become a digital nation.

As far as matter in our hand concerns, MacAfee rebuffed suggestions that the alleged incident undermined his own credentials saying: “I have no control over Twitter’s security”.

But he also posted that he believed his mobile phone had likely been compromised.

Twitter declined to comment but highlighted its security advice guide. The social network offers two-factor authentication – in which a person must enter a code sent to a mobile phone in addition to a password to access an account – to avoid such incidents.

“The first indication that I had been hacked was turning on my cell phone and seeing the attached image,” he said.

“I knew at that point that my phone had been compromised.

“I was on a boat at the time and could not go to my carrier (AT&T) to have the issue corrected.

“All that the hacker did was compromise my Twitter account. It could have been worse.”

Mr. McAfee added that he had since removed two-factor authentication from all of his accounts as a precaution.
