A new study says that moderate drinking can help people suffering from heart failure to live longer. The study is published in Jama Network Open and as stated in a report in the New York Times, is one of the first to find out the effect of drinking after a heart failure diagnosis and also asserts to have a definite conclusion.
As per the report, most of the studies which tried to establish a relationship between alcohol and the risk of failure of heart could only give doubtful results.
Study Conducted On 393 People
In order to get the results, researchers studied 393 people with an average age of 79 who had heart failure. It was concluded from the study that the ones who did not drink survived for around seven years and three months after the diagnosis of heart failure.
As compared to this, the ones who drank moderately in a week survived for more than eight years post the diagnosis of heart failure and who drank more alcohol lived for over seven and a half years.
