December 21st, the winter solstice is the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. On the other hand, it is the longest day of the year in the Southern Hemisphere.
When the sun is seen at it’s most southerly position directly above the tropic of Capricorn. Usually, the solstice takes place on December 21st while the time and date can itself shift because the solar year doesn’t exactly go with the calendar year.
Since the Earth is tilted on it’s rotational axis, different seasons can be experienced on earth. When earth moves around the sun, the hemispheres experiences winter when it is angled away from the sun and summer when it is angled toward the sun.
