The first phase polling took place for 89 constituencies out of the total 182 constituencies that went to polling on Saturday. 21 million voters wud decide fate of 977 candidates.

Early morning on Saturday, PM Modi, BJP and Congress leaders urged people to come out and vote.

During voting, there were reports of faulty EVMs from various constituencies. It is said that over 70 EVMs were found faulty in Surat constituency alone.
The election commission is said to have replaced the faulty EVM promptly streamlining the voting process.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has asked whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited houses of the Dalits and the Patidars when the youths of the two sections of the society were attacked.
On the other hand, on the day of polling in 89 constituencies in Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held four rallies in North and Central Guajrat.
