Scientists have developed an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based computer programme that can help found post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in veterans by studying their voices.

The research, published in the journal Depression and Anxiety, found that an AI tool can differentiate with 89% accuracy between the voices of those with or without PTSD.

Random Forests Technique Used For Study

The co-author of the study, Charles R. Marmar, Professor at NYU School of Medicine mentioned that the findings suggest that speech-based characteristics can be used to diagnose this disease, and with further improvement and verification, may be used in the clinic in the coming time. For the purpose of study, the team used a statistical/Machine Learning (ML) technique, known as random forests, that has the ability to “learn” how to classify individuals based on examples.
