There has always been a doubt over the benefits and safety of the cholesterol- lowering drugs in older people. However, things seems to change a bit now. A new review reportedly by Australian researchers has unearthed that statins are helpul in reducing risk of Cardiovascular disease in people of senior age.
Findings Published In The Lancet
It is also found that they do not increase the risk of deaths from non-Cardiovascular disease, or cancer risk, at any age, according to the latest findings published in The Lancet.
The review in the Lancet, looked at 28 global clinical trials, 187,000 people and 14,500 out of them were over 75. Statins are shown to reduce ‘Bad’ cholesterol, the type which can cause heart attacks and strokes.
