Pakistan sets Hafiz Muhammad Saeed to be free from House arrest

The review board has not found any satisfactory evidence against Hafiz Saeed so it has told government to release him from custody. He could be released after the end of term of house arrest which is to end in a couple of days.

Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, a Pakistani Islamist and co-founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and the chief or Amir of Jama’at-ud-Da’wah has been set free from house arrest by Pakistan. His release orders were issued by Pakistan Judicial body Lahore High Court. United States has come down heavily on Pakistan’s decision to set Saeed free and has objected to the decision taken by the Islamic state.

Meanwhile, after his release, Saeed has reportedly said that he would be working closely for the freedom of citizens of Kashmir. Experts suggest that this could directly impact activities in J&K after Saeed’s comment. Some also believe that if Saeed maintains his word then it would not at all be beneficial for the valley which is already marred by militant activities. Political pundits also suggest that if Saeed is able to succeed in regrouping camps hailing freedom for Kashmir then the valley would be again forced into violence and there would be sudden surge in militant activities.

Since Saeed is a terrorist leader designated by UN and US, him being freed by Pakistan directly means that the Islamic state gives him freedom to start and engage in terrorist activities. Notably, Saeed is also one of the wanted terrorist leaders who is said to be the mastermind 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

On the other hand, Opposition Congress party has also condemned Pakistan’s decision and has also condemned Modi government accusing it of inaction in this matter.
