Decision Taken Following Pending SC Judgement
The Telecom department has kept Aadhaar-based face authentication on hold pending the Supreme Court judgement on petitions difficult issuance of new Mobile connections and re-verification via using the unique identification. The Department of Telecom (DoT) in a letter sent to the UIDAI CEO has reportedly mentioned that the Apex Court is set to give a judgment on the petition challenging Aadhar based e-KYC process which may require a review on the entire e-KYC process for the issuance of new cell connections.
Puts On Hold Earlier Order
Earlier, UIDAI Directed All Telecom Companies To Introduce Face Authentication In Their System. In August, The Unique Identity Authority of India (UIDAI) had directed all the Telecom service companies to introduce double factor authentication in their system by using matching of the face of the subscriber as captured in Aadhaar from September 15, 2018. The Aadhaar body had said that not less 10% than their total monthly verification transaction needs to be done using face authentication.
