The Rajasthan State Level Under-13 (BOYS AND GIRLS) Chess Tournament was successfully organized on April 28 and April 29 by Jaipur District Chess Association under the aegis of ARCA. The state level event was held at Ankur Banquet Hall in Mansarovar in Jaipur from 9 am onwards on April 28 and April 29.

Honi Arora won the first prize and was given Rs4000 cash prize and trophy. The second prize in the open category was won by Chess in LakeCity participant Arun Kataria. He received Rs3000 cash prize and a trophy.

In the U-13 Girls category Ashi Upadhyay grabbed the first position and was conferred a trophy and Rs3000 cash prize. Similarly, Yashashvi Gupta received Rs2500 cash prize and a trophy as she stood second in the Girls category. The winners will be playing at the national chess tournament to be held in Ahmedabad next month.

Students from various schools and districts of Rajasthan participated in the event and all of them enthusiastically participated in the seven rounds of the chess tournament. The enthusiasm among the participation was worth watching. There were more than 200 participants from different districts of Rajasthan including Jaipur, Dausa, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Ganganagar, Kota and others. The performance of the students from districts other than Jaipur was also remarkable and some of them played exceedingly well.

More than 40 students from St Xavier’s Nevta, Jaipur participated in the event and all of them performed excellently well. In the girls category SANVVI CHOUDHARY grabbed the 29th rank by winning 3 out of 7 rounds while SUHANI KANDOI had to content with 43rd rank as she could only win 2 out of 7 rounds.

Despite being their first attempt, St Xaviers’s Nevta participants of the boys category also performed well. Here is the list of their rankings

Although there were initial hiccups during the first day of the event. Parents got really upset when the organisers kept accepting new registrations till the last moment and did not start the tournament till 10:30 am when it was scheduled to start at 9 am. Besides, some parents also complained that some of the participants were scheduled to play in the open garden under a tent while some were accommodated inside the air-conditioned banquet hall. Acting on parents’ grievances, the organisers had to accommodate all the players inside the air-conditioned hall and start the tournament. Though it got cramped inside but participants had to bear it as it was sizzling 44 degrees temperature outside. Then on the first day went smoothly and then on the second day as well things were smooth. The prize distribution ceremony was organized in the evening on April 29 and was attended by the parents and participants.

Congrats to organisers and to the kids too who were full of energy even at the end of the day despite of the scorching heat and little inconvenience which could be read in the parents faces.Still Kudos….There is always room for improvement……

Special Thanks to Sandeep Durand Mahender sir for giving the exposure to the first time xavierite competitor’s. It was indeed a learning time and kids learned a lot and hope will do Great! and bring laurels to school in near future under the able guidance of the sincere faculty.

St. Xavier’s overall performance was brilliant as a beginner in chess world. It was a good tournament and we hope all the players had a great experience. As you can see, there are lot of players out here who knows chess more than you guys So we can start taking your chess class a little more seriously from now!
