NEW DELHI | Updated January 21, 2018: Seventeen people reportedly lost their life and some were injured in a major accident in the Bawana Industrial area in New Delhi on Saturday when a fire turned to ashes a two storey building. Police and fire services personnel reportedly suspect that the number of casualties might increase.

It took many hours for the fire tenders to douse the fire at the firecracker factory and rescue operations were started on war footing by the rescue team.

The fire took place at a building in the F block of the Bawana Industrial area in New Delhi on Saturday evening. As many as 7-8 fir tenders were rushed to the space to contain the massive fire.

The injured were rushed to the hospital while the charred bodies were recovered from the spot.

Delhi CM ArvindKejriwal announced Rs5 lakh compensation to the next of kin of 17 dead and Rs1 lakh to the injured.
